Rural Aspects by Federico Paviani & Joshua Althaus

12. October – 3. November 2024

opening 12. October 19:00H

Joshua Althaus and Federico Paviani’s site-specific project “Rural Aspects” stand as the next step in their ongoing research POST ACTION, analyzing the dualism between Urban Zones and Countryside. The viewers will stand on the threshold between an urbanized environment and the still rural world. Inspired by Rem Koolhaas’ “Countryside, the Future,” they question the boundary between urbanized and non-urbanized areas as “non-places,” a gray zone where evolution and traditions meet.

Federico Paviani (Varese, 1994) lives in Varese. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication (SUPSI, Lugano) and later a Master of Arts in Type Design (ECAL, Lausanne). Federico worked for a semester at HKDI (Hong Kong Design Institute) as an external lecturer for the Visual Communication course. During this time, he explored and developed a research-based project with David Loy on the interpretation of local horse racing culture. The outcome was presented at Parallel Space, a contemporary art space in Sham Shui Po.
Joshua Althaus (Zurich, 1991) lives in Locarno (CH). He studied interior design at the Centro Scolastico per le Industrie Artistiche (CSIA, Lugano) and later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication (SUPSI, Lugano). As a freelance graphic designer, he works between Locarno (CH) and Paris (FR). His work primarily revolves around independent practice, straddling culture, fashion, art, and self-initiated projects, while also collaborating with other designers and creative minds, both nationally and internationally. His approach is focused on visual research, placing the concept at the center of every project. His process is often guided by errors, resulting in a blend of pragmatism and instinct.
